David Boyd Award 2023
At our VJBL Presentation night on Friday night, we announced this years winner of the David Boyd Award as Under 14 Boys 1 player Eddie Brown.
The award is named after the late David Boyd.
David was a father of 2 kids and was heavily involved with coaching them at both domestic and representative level. David was a passionate supporter of the BPBA as well as the Storm program and was always willing to volunteer his time to assist the club in whatever manner possible.
He served as a committee member of the club and was well known and liked for his fun loving and enthusiastic nature.
David tragically passed away 8 years ago as a result of a heart attack while coaching his son’s Storm team in a training session.
David will always be remembered fondly at Bellarine and his great personal legacy lives on through this award.
Eddie Brown has been a part of the Storm program since the 2019 season.
As a player Eddie demonstrates all the qualities of outstanding athletes. He is incredibly coachable, pays attention to coaches instruction and always tries to implement direction immediately.
His focus on what needs to happen next and ability to move past distractions in the game are commendable.
This season Eddie took on the role of team captain with his u14 boys team. As part of this role he took younger players under his wing and guided them through the difficulties of stepping up from u12 to u14.
He was able to help the coaches get messages through to players by helping and explaining concepts and directions that weren’t fully understood by teammates, aiding their development and helping the team get their conceptual and tactical understanding on the same page.
On the court Eddie’s performances have been exceptional.
This season he averaged 25 points per game for the u14 boys and was instrumental in the team making the grand final. He is also a member of the Vic Country u14 academy program and has represented Vic Country at the Southern Cross challenge for the past 2 years.
Eddie embodies everything the David Boyd award stands for and we are honoured to present him with the highest junior honour in our club.
