STORM BOY’S VIEW: Week 6 24th & 25th April 2020

Hello Stormer’s, we’re all set for another big weekend of Big V games for the ANZAC Day weekend.

DIVISION  1 MEN

V Bulleen, Saturday 24th April 7.30pm, Bellarine Sports Centre

V Collingwood, Sunday 25th April 3.00pm, Collingwood College

A home/road double awaits our Division 1 Men this weekend.

On Saturday night we host Bulleen in what is shaping as an early audit of where we sit in the pecking order, with the Boomers sitting on top of the Division 1 Men ladder and being undefeated until Wednesday night of this week, opening Round 6 with a narrow loss to Keysborough.

How about the form of Rohan “Blue Carpet” Jarvie!

Big Jarvs is on fire at the moment and is leading the charge at the moment, with the wily old Junk Yard Dog Jason Reardon getting well amongst it last week as well.

Chris Arkell for the visitors shapes as the main danger for the Storm to keep a strong check on, however, the Boomers squad look like a team where everybody plays their role and that’s what the Storm will need to do to get the weekend off to a winning start.

Sunday’s game will be an interesting battle as well, as Collingwood have developed into a strong Division 1 side in just a few short seasons.

Whilst a 2 and 4 record to date doesn’t necessarily suggest that, on heir home court they are a tough proposition.

At the worst, a split result for the weekend would be a good outcome.  Lose both and the Storm will find themselves back in the chasing pack.

Stormy is confident though and the Storm are playing some pretty good ball right now, so two wins will not surprise him!

DIVISION 1 WOMEN

V Western Port 24th April 7.00pm @ Somerville Recreation Centre

After a strong opening quarter last Saturday night, it looked like our Division 1 Women were on their way to a much needed win.

However, a horror second quarter let the opposition into the game and they outplayed our ladies for the rest of the game.

Coach Sanderson will be desperate for a more shared workload across the board this week to turn the team’s fortunes around.

And there’s no better time to do it that when you’re taking on a team that’s right beside you on the ladder!

The Storm girls should and must win this one to keep their season afloat.

YOUTH LEAGUE 2 MEN

V Melton Saturday 24th April 5.30pm @ Bellarine Sports Centre

A little bit of a speed hump for our Youth League Men last week, as Western Port rained on their parade.

A slow start in the first quarter cost the Storm in the end as for the next three quarters they stuck right with their opponents.

Well done to Kody Wilson who had a big day with 23 points for the match.

This weekend, the Storm boys get a chance to jump straight back on the horse and find the winners list again as Bulleen sit on the bottom of the ladder without a win.

That doesn’t mean it’ll be ‘easy pickings’, especially if the Storm have another poor start again this week.  Bottom sides only need the sniff of an upset to keep their engines burning for the whole game.

Stormy knows the dynamic duo in Dawson & Johns won’t allow any complacency this week and that’s enough for me to predict a good win for the team.

Make sure you get along to the Bellarine Sports Centre Saturday from 5.30 to cheer hard for your Bellarine Storm Youth League Men and Division 1 Men in their home double header.

To all the ex-service men and women, we wish you all the best for ANZAC Day on Sunday and thank you for your service.

Lest we Forget.

Until next week……Storm Boy…..OUT!
