Weekend Wrap Round 12

Division 1 Men

Bellarine Storm 76 defeated Warrnambool 69

Despite missing a chunk of the team through illness and unavailability, our Division 1 Men put in a super performance to again defeat Warrnambool at their place by 7 points on Saturday night, making it six wins in a row.

With the absence of Lewie Varley, Marko Vekic and Jason Reardon, the Storm put their shoulders to the wheel and worked hard to come away with the points.

Whilst the Seahawks made the early running, the Storm increased the tempo in the second term to lead by 9 points into the main break.

Not to be denied, Warrnambool erased that lead with a strong third term to go in with a 1 point buffer, before, Bellarine fought again, to run away with the win.

Max Kos finished with 18 points for the game, Leigh Saffin chipped in with a double double 18 points and 11 boards, Nathan Gronbeck had 14 and Rohan Jarvie had a double double of his own with qo points and 12 boards for the night.

Division 1 Women

Bellarine Storm 45 lost to Warrnambool 82

Unfortunately, it was a car of deja vu for our Division 1 Women as they again lowered their colours to Warrnambool on Saturday night.

The Storm couldn’t raise a yelp in the opening term as the Mermaid’s controlled the contest from the outset and never really looked in trouble throughout the game.

The only highlight for the Storm on the night, was the efforts of Lucy Howard, who had her best performance for the season, showing her potential, to finish with 23 points and 15 boards in an otherwise forgettable night.

Youth League Women

Bellarine Storm 71 lost to Coburg 80

In a tight tussle for most of the day, our Youth League Women just fell short of the win against Coburg at Coburg on Sunday afternoon.

There was very little in the game for most of the 40 minutes as 1st played 3rd and both sides fought hard to get the advantage.

In the end, Bellarine were unable to stop Coburg’s Jessica Connor who ended with 38 points for the game in a superb individual performance to lead her side to the win.

For the Storm, Piper Copeland top scored with 16 points, Millie Sibley again demonstrated her talents with 15 points and 13 boards, whilst Carly Sanders and Alannah Northam were prominent on the boards, finishing with 15 and 12 rebounds respectively.

Youth League Men

Bellarine Storm 67 lost to Keysborough 95

In a sometimes physical and sometimes confusing contest, our Youth League Men weren’t able to hold off the still undefeated Keysborough at Storm HQ on Sunday afternoon.

At the half, the game looked set to go down to the wire as both sides fought hard to get the upper hand, with the Cougars managing to hold an 8 point lead.

The Storm fought hard all day against a very well drilled outfit in the Cougars, however, just weren’t able to stay with them long enough to push for a win. Bellarine struggled to get the flow going in their game in the second half, due to the close checking of their opponents, the Storm conceding 29 turnovers for the match.

Max Maciejewski led the scoring for Bellarine with 14 points for the game.
