Weekend Wrap Round 7

Youth League Women

Saturday – Bellarine Storm 78 defeated Coburg 67

Sunday – Bellarine Storm 79 defeated Wallan 51

An awesome weekend for our Youth League Women as they now sit atop the Youth League Women Division 2 ladder after two big wins.

On Saturday night, after a tight three quarter tussle with the Giants, our Storm girls dropped into another gear and ran away with a solid 11 point victory, Carly Sanders (20 & 10) and Gemma Morison (19) led the charge to grab the win, the victory moving the Storm into Coburg’s second position on the ladder, with the top side in their sights the following day.

On Sunday, enter Eliza Haugh, who starred for the Storm to finish with the awesome figures of 25 points at 9 of 11 shooting, including 6 of 8 from outside the arc.

With the team missing Alannah Northam through injury, Eliza stepped right up to make her mark on the game and ensure the Storm were able to account for Wallan by 18 points and seal top spot on the ladder to go 8-0 for the season.

Youth League Men

Bellarine Storm 93 defeated Wallan 65

A quick bounce back to the winners podium for our Youth League Men, who were just too good for Wallan at Storm HQ on Saturday night.

In a complete polar opposite to last weeks game, the Storm were in control all game, led by Ryan Robinson (24 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists), who almost appeared to be everywhere at both ends of the court to seal the deal.

Ethan Nicholls was also instrumental in the win with 21 for the night, in one of his best performances for the season to date.

Division 1 Women

Bellarine Storm 61 lost to Western Port 67

So close and yet so far for our Division 1 Women on Saturday night in their contest with Western Port.

A second quarter hiatus turned out to be costly down the stretch, with the Storm making it to within 2 points of the end with just a couple of minutes left in the contest.

Unfortunately, the Steelers were able to convert a couple of offensive rebounds into scores and that turned out to be the difference in the end.

It was great to see Olivia Virt back on court, making a nice contribution with 20 points and 9 boards, with Summer Field also making a mark with 11 points and 13 rebounds, whilst Captain Jaimee Crombie chipped in with 14 for the night.

Division 1 Men

Bellarine Storm 70 lost to Corio Bay 76

After a rapid finish, where they almost stole the win from the visitors, our Division 1 Men fell just short of upsetting Corio Bay on Saturday night.

The first term was a pretty even contest with both sides feeling each other out, before the Stingrays started to get their game going and move away to a concerning 17 point lead at the main break.

After half time, the Storm began to make some inroads into the deficit with Marko Vekic, Nathan Gronbeck and Max Kos working hard to get us back into the contest and trail by just 11 with a quarter to play.

Into the last and with the game on the line, Lewie Varley and Leigh Saffin found their range and with a barrage of three’s had the Storm within three points of the lead and in with a massive chance of running over the top of the Stingrays.

However, the visitors were able to steady in the last couple of minutes to hold off the fast finishing Storm.

Leigh Saffin led the scoring with 15 points, with 9 of those coming from downtown in the last quarter. Max Kos finished with 13 for the night, with Nathan Gronbeck shipping in with 11.
