Hello dudes and dudettes, welcome to this week’s Big V Previews.
DIVISION 1 MEN
V Camberwell, Saturday 22nd May 6.00pm, Balwyn High School
V Warrnambool, Sunday 23rd May 2.00pm, Bellarine Sports Centre
A busy weekend coming up for our Division 1 Men this weekend as they hit the road on Saturday night before returning home on Sunday.
The lads came very, very close to having Cougar for tea last week, pushing the still undefeated Keysborough side last weekend. Losing Lewie Varley through injury early in the match and then having Jason Reardon cop an early shower certainly didn’t help the cause.
Camberwell will be a tough ask on their home deck as they are a formidable team, sitting in third place on the ladder right now.
Max Barkeley looks like the man to stop for the Storm, posting 20 plus points in a number of games this season.
Stormy thinks it’ll be a fascinating contest and one which at full strength, the Storm should be able to win.
Sunday’s game will be important to win, should Saturday night go to plan. A win will be a must for the Storm and Stormy feels that we will have just a bit too much talent overall and should be able to sea the hawks off (see what I did there…seahawks!)
DIVISION 1 WOMEN
V Camberwell, Sunday 23rd May 5.30pm, Balwyn High School
Well how about Stormy and the old tea leaves last week!!
Congrats to our Division 1 Women who broke through for a well deserved win last weekend. It made Stormy’s weekend to see the ladies finally get the ‘w’ and reward for effort.
Hopefully, this has opened the flood gates and there’s more joy to come!
This week’s opponents are certainly takeable with a similar record for the season to ours. Another performance like last week and hey presto, shazam and you’ve got back-to-back wins.
Stormy has been on the coffee this week and the coffee grinds this morning formed the shape of a ‘w’ so I’m taking that as a sign of continued success for the Storm ladies and for them to get on a roll, dragon themselves back into the season (Camberwell Dragons, lol…get it?)
YOUTH LEAGUE 2 MEN
V Mornington, Sunday 23rd May, 12.00pm, Bellarine Sports Centre
A Sunday afternoon game at home for our Youth League Men against Mornington.
Unlike our Division 1 Men, the Youth League Men slayed the top of the table Cougars last week, to stamp themselves as a genuine contender for this year’s title.
The win was made even more impressive as the Storm were without Kody Wilson, who has been red hot in recent weeks. Storm Boy heard around the traps he’s suffering from ‘leather poisoning’ having touched the ball so many times in recent weeks!
With the ‘Big Unit’ Matty Johns suiting up for the Storm, this side looks even stronger and his presence will be important for the rest of the season.
This weekend is another big challenge as we face the second placed side in the Terrill Conference in Mornington. No doubt they would have noticed last weeks defeat of the Cougars which will make them sit up and take notice for this game.
The Storm can’t afford to let the great work of last round to go to waste and Stormy thinks that this will have shown the Storm they have the team to contest and will instil the confidence to send this weeks opponent home Morning(ton) a loss.
Ok, I think that’s about all the ‘humour’ people can stand for the week, so Stormy’s off to get a new scriptwriter!
Good luck to all our teams this weekend, get down to the Stadium to cheer your Bellarine Storm Youth League Men and Men on Sunday.
Storm Boy…..OUT!
