BIG V WRAP 23rd & 24th March 2024

Week two of our Youth League 2024 season saw our first home games for the season with a double header on Saturday night and our Youth League Men backing up on Sunday for their second game of the weekend.

YOUTH LEAGUE WOMEN
BELLARINE 96 d SOUTHERN PENINSULA 54
(Karli Bruce 28 & 20, Lucy Howard 20 & 10)

It was all one way traffic on Saturday night, as our Youth League Women made it back to back wins to start the season.

Like their win last weekend, the Storm dominated their opponent from beginning to end, with Karli Bruce the star, finishing the night with 28 points and 20 boards to be the most dominant player in the game.

Lucy Howard played a great supporting role, continuing her fine start to the season, with 20 points and 10 rebounds of her own for the night.

It was a great team effort across the board for the Storm, with a good spread of scoring and rebounding across the night, as Piper Copeland (16 & 10), Summer Field (11 & 14) and Alicia Field (11 points) all contributed to a strong result.

The Storm’s dominance over their opponents was best summarised by the rebound count as the home side our-rebounded their opponents a staggering 93 to 33 in a complete ownership of the glass.

YOUTH LEAGUE MEN
SATURDAY
BELLARINE 54 lost to MACCABI 96
(Ashton Lantzke 13, Daniel Clifton 11 )

SUNDAY
BELLARINE 69 lost to SUNBURY 85
(Bailey Goodgame 19, Daniel Clifton 13)

It was a tough weekend for our Youth League Men as they dropped both their games on the weekend.

On Saturday night, Bellarine were up against it from the start as Maccabi piled on the heat in the first term, not allowing the Storm to get into the flow of the contest and by half time, the signs were looking ominous for us.

The third term saw the Storm fight back and try to pull back some of the opposition’s momentum in an attempt to work their way back into the contest, however, they were still unable to stem the scoring of Maccabi at the other end of the court.

Facing a 37 point deficit at the final break, the mountain proved too big for the Strom as the visitors came away with the win.

On a positive note though, new recruit Ashton Lantzke showed some good signs with his on court presence and whilst he had a difficult assignment for some of the game on key Maccabi player Jared Fibishenko, Lantzke held his own and ended up top score for the Storm.

The Storm headed to Sunbury on Sunday and again, a slow start proved costly, as the Jets opened up an early 13 point buffer by the end of the opening quarter and from there, they didn’t look back, holding the lead for the rest of the contest.

Again it was the third quarter that was the Storm’s best for the game, outscoring the home side by 6 points and despite being adrift by 14 points, a win was still a possibility.

Despite fighting hard down the stretch, the lead proved just a little too much for the Storm to reign back in, going down by 16 points in the wash up.

Bailey Goodgame was in nice touch for the Storm finishing with 19 for the match and Daniel Clifton again amongst the leading scorers with 13 for the Storm.
