Big V Wrap Round 5

Only three of our four teams were involved in Big V action for Round 5 over the weekend.

Championship Men
Bellarine 91 lost to Sunbury 108
(Lewie Varley 22)

Another slow start cost our Championship Men in their clash against Sunbury at Boardman Stadium on Saturday night.

A 31 to 19 opening quarter to the home side proved the difference at the end, with the Storm outscoring the Jets over the remaining 3 quarters.

Across the night, it proved to be a very even contest, with both sides shooting better than 50% from the field and the Storm out rebounding the Jets 34 to 33.

Josh Chery was amongst the points with 18 for the night, Max Kos chipped in with 14 and in his 50th Storm game, Nathan Gronbeck finished with 10.

Youth League 2 Women
Bellarine 80 defeated Sherbrooke 50
(Ash Withers 30)

It was the Ash Withers show on Saturday night as she dominated the contest against Mornington, with 30 points and 16 boards to lead the Storm to a big win.

With Alicia Field and Piper Copeland also providing good support, the Storm established early control of the contest and never looked back.

Withers was almost unstoppable in the third term, compiling 14 points, 6 rebounds and an assist for the term.

Going into the last with an 18 point buffer on their opposition and the sting out of the contest, Coach David Smith would have been pleased that his charges played the game out and extended their lead to 30 points by the final buzzer.

Youth League 2 Men
Bellarine 46 lost to Sunbury 77
(Keegan Johnson 16)

It was a bright start for our Youth League Men on Saturday night, playing Sunbury in the early game at Boardman Stadium, leading by 3 points at the first break.

Unfortunately, after that beginning, the task got a lot tougher for the Storm as the home side began to flex their muscle and work their way back to the lead by the half.

The Storm were hurt by turnovers and rebounding at their defensive end of the court through the night, mainly due to the absence of Vinnie Whelan and Sam Maher for the game, however, the highlight was the continuing development of Keegan Johnson who led the scoring with 16 points for the game.
