Weekend Wrap Round 3

Youth League Women

Bellarine Storm 62 defeated Wangaratta North East 61

It’s three on the trot for our Youth League Women, however, they didn’t have things all their own way against the Bushrangers, who pushed the Storm all the way to the line.

It was a tough tussle all night as momentum see-sawed through the game. Alannah Northam was one of the keys for Bellarine, leading from the front and providing a strong presence on court.

With things close at the half, Gemma Morison’s leadership kept the storm focused on the job at the main break and led her team well in the second half.

The thing that would have pleased Coach David Smith is that down the stretch, the Storm didn’t need to rely on one player to get the job done, as everybody played their role in the last few minutes of the game, to steady and get the win.

Division 1 Women

Bellarine Storm 73 Lost to Sherbrooke 91

Not a nice trip to the mountains for our Division 1 Women as they left without the points on Sunday afternoon.

The Storm were jumped early by the Suns before things tightened up in the second quarter to have us trailing by just 8 points at the half.

Unfortunately though, some defensive lapses, combined with Sherbrooke’s import Ariel Horne allowed the home side to extend their break into the final term and allow them to hold on for the win.

For the Storm, Laney McFadyen was the leader with 18 points, getting good support from Olivia Virt (14) and Chantelle Hall (12).

Youth League Men

Bellarine Storm 89 defeated Wangaratta North East 63

Two on the spin for our Youth League Men after they made light work of the Bushrangers on Saturday night.

A 51 to 25 first half for the Storm had the game out of the Bushranger’s reach at the main break.

It must please Coach Leigh Dawson that his side didn’t need to rely on one or two players to get the job done, with all of the starting five putting up double figure points in the game.

Clancy Whelan led the pack with 18 points for the night, with Jarvis Gleeson (16) and Ethan Nicholls (14) playing strong support roles.

Division 1 Men

Bellarine Storm 63 lost to Shepparton 85

It was a joyless trip to the Gator’s pond on Saturday night for our Division 1 Men as they continue to look for the spark to ignite their season.

After an even opening term, a poor second quarter from the Storm allowed the home side to set up a 7 point break at the half.

The third term was another even battle, however a last term fade out saw the Storm lose pace with their opponents and suffer another loss to begin the season.

The shining lights for the Storm were Leigh Saffin who finished with a game high 24 points and Lewie Varley with 13 points for the night.
