DAVID BOYD AWARD 2024
The David Boyd award is presented to a young person within the Storm program who demonstrates outstanding character, basketball ability, social awareness in a team environment, and an unquestioned commitment towards his or her team and the game of basketball itself.
The award is named after the late David Boyd. David was a father of 2 kids and was heavily involved with coaching them at both domestic and representative level. David was a passionate supporter of the BPBA as well as the Storm program and was always willing to volunteer his time to assist the club in whatever manner possible. He served as a committee member of the club and was well known and liked for his fun loving and enthusiastic nature.
David tragically passed away 9 years ago as a result of a heart attack while coaching his son’s Storm team in a training session. David will always be remembered fondly at Bellarine and his great personal legacy lives on through this award.
The David Boyd award winner for 2023 is Annelise Draper. Annelise has come through the Storm program beginning in u12’s through to her current team of the u16 1’s. She has demonstrated a commitment to doing things the right way with respect, kindness and a positive attitude.

Following an injury mid-season Annelise assisted the coaches to run drills at practice for her teammates and got involved in community programs run by our association. Her work with Aussie Hoops developing skills and being a positive role model has had a significant impact on the next generation of hoopers on the Bellarine Peninsula.
This season Annelise has also made a real commitment to improving herself as a player. Her coaches have commented that her engagement, listening to instruction and willingness to try and expand her game outside of current comfort zone has been excellent.
Adding to the team training commitment Annelise has also been doing regular individual skills sessions within her own time prior to school to better her game. This skill work paid off with a couple of clutch shots, skills she was working on in the morning sessions, that she was able to make in the preliminary final to help her team reach a grand final.
Annelise’s commitment to bettering herself through an injury interrupted year and her strong contribution to ensuring our clubs development programs bring through the next generation of players make her an outstanding recipient of our clubs highest junior honour.
