Big V Weekend Wrap Round 16

Division 1 Women

Bellarine Storm 44 lost to Western Port 66

A slow start and a last term fade out cost our Division 1 Women in their clash with Western Port at Storm HQ on Saturday night, with the visitors being able to set up a 12 point buffer by the first break.

The Storm were competitive in the middle stages of the game before a 13 to 23 final term sealed their fate.

Lucy Howard again was the best for the Storm with 14 points, the only Storm player to reach double figures for the night in what was otherwise a disappointing performance.

Whilst there was closeness in several statistical areas, the telling factor was the Storm’s scoring clip of 27.27 compared to the visitors 39.06 with the inability to impact the scoreboard being the difference in the end.

Division 1 Men

Bellarine Storm 97 lost to Southern Peninsula 100

It was a case of so close but so far away for our Division 1 Men as they suffer their third loss in a row, going down to Southern Peninsula by just 3 points.

Whilst not of the same level as our Division 1 Women earlier in the night, the Storm still gave away a 12 point head start to the Sharks by quarter time.

The next 3 quarters saw the Storm outscore Southern Peninsula, however, not by enough to erase the whole lead.

A Max Kos 2 pointer saw the Storm get within 1 point halfway through the last and gave the Storm some hope that they could snatch the lead late.

However, the visitors, with their finals chances on the line, just found baskets when they needed down the stretch, allowing them to hold off any chances of a home side win.

Nathan Gronbeck led the scoring with 19, Marko Vekic and Max Kos had 17 each and Leigh Saffin 16.

Youth League Women

Bellarine Storm 80 defeated Mornington 43

Led by 22 points and 14 rebounds by Alannah Northam, our Youth League Women recorded the only Storm win for the weekend.

After a very even first term, the Storm turned the screws on the visitors to have the game under their control by the half, enabling them to cruise to a 37 point victory.

Ably supporting Alannah Northam was Carly Sanders with 18 points and 13 boards for the match, the two almost outscoring their opponents total for the day.

Youth League Men

SaturdayBellarine Storm 60 lost to Keysborough 128

Sunday – Bellarine Storm 80 lost to Southern Peninsula 89

A weekend to forget for our undermanned Youth League Men, after a bout of the ‘spicy’ cough reduced their stocks heading into the weekend.

On Saturday night the Storm were on the end of one from Keysborough to the tune of 68 points in a game best forgotten.

Things looked to be on the improve on Sunday with an even opening term against Southern Peninsula at Storm HQ before the visitors opened up a handy break at the half to lead by 13 points.

Whilst the Storm continued to fight on in the second half, they weren’t able to peg back that lead and the visitors were able to get the win.

Ethan McDonald let the way for the Storm with 18 points and 10 boards, Max Maciejewski chipped in with 17 and Nick Hough continued his recent purple patch with 16.
