Welcome one all again to old Stormy peering into his old crystal ball for his thoughts on this weekend’s round of Big V basketball and what a big round it is!
Division 1 Men
Saturday 9th April v Melbourne University 8:30pm @ Melbourne University
Sunday 10th April v Coburg 2:00pm @ Bellarine Secondary College
My, oh my, this is a big old weekend for Beugs and the lads this weekend. After a shaky start to the season, our Division 1 Men have a couple of important games this weekend, to keep them in touch with the top sides leading into the Easter break.
The Students are always a handful on their home deck, so our boys will have needed to do their homework and study hard to pass the exam that’s likely to come.
We welcome Jamieson Hultgren into the team this week and his height will be a big help to Rohan Jarvie and Seb Thomason and by the end of class on Saturday night, Stormy feels that the Storm will be Dux of the University.
On Sunday, the Storm is home to Coburg and depending on the night before’s result, this may become a must win game.
Coburg played Bulleen last weekend and unfortunately, they came off second best. Our first win for the season was a couple of weeks ago against the same opposition and the Storm was able to hold off the Boomers in that one.
Based on that formalise, Stormy feels that we should be able to get the ‘W’ in this one, however, basketball’s a funny game, so our boys will still have to come ready to play on the day.
Division 1 Women
Saturday 9th April v Warrandyte 8:00pm @ Warrandyte Sports Complex
Our Division 1 Women are covering more ground that the early settlers at the moment, having travelled to Sherbrooke last weekend, they’re off to Warrandyte this weekend.
After going down to Sherbrooke last weekend, our Ladies are another Storm team needing a win before the Easter break
The Venom are off to a nice start to the season with a 2-1 record and sitting second on the ladder, so will be a tough proposition for the Storm this week, considering they handled Melbourne Uni last week and as we know, the Students managed to knock us off the week before.
From what Stormy understands, the Storm ladies need to make sure that they can reduce the number of defensive lapses they had last weekend and that will go a long way to getting them a win in this one.
He’s always been a glass half full sorta guy, so Stormy thinks the Storm are in with a big show in this one.
Youth League Men
Saturday 9th April v Melton 6:00pm @ Melton
A strong road win against Wangaratta last weekend has the Youth League Men buzzing like bees right now and looking very handy indeed!
Sitting atop the Watson Conference ladder, they take on Terrill Conference Melton at Melton in what should be a very interesting contest.
Storm have won two on the trot, whilst Melton have lost their last two outings, meaning they will be hungry for a home win.
My old pal Leigh Dawson will be very pleased with his charges at the moment, with a good spread of scoring across his squad and that, Stormy feels, will be the difference in this one, with the Storm having a number of scoring options, which might bee too much for Melton to control.
Stormy thinks its a hat trick coming up for our Youth League in this one.
Youth League Women
Sunday 10th April v Western Port 12:00 Bellarine Secondary College
Stormy is really looking forward to this one, as our Youth League Women make their first home appearance after opening the season with 3 strong away wins.
After being pushed all the way by Wangaratta last week, to sneak in by 1 point, the Ladies will be very keen to put their best on show this Sunday at home.
When he looks at this side, Stormy gets excited for the future with some of the talented young ladies running around for the Storm. Despite not having the services of ‘Cyclone’ Carly Sanders this weekend, there is still plenty of talent in this team with players like Ash Withers, Alannah Northam and Jemma Morison that can lead the younger players from the front.
It’s sure to be an exciting afternoon and hopefully, by the end of the game, our Youth League Women will maintain their perfect record leading into the Easter break
