by The Storm Boy
Howdy Storm Fans, Storm Boy here.
I’ll be here right throughout the 2021 Big V Season to let you know how we’re travelling and preview each round of the season. I promise you…’Stormy’ will pull no punches and call it as he sees it and will be up for a lot of fun along the way as we follow our three Big V sides through the year, so welcome along for the ride, it’ll be fun!
DIVISION 1 MEN
V Shepparton, Saturday 20th March 7.00pm @ Shepparton Stadium
Well after taking care of cross-town rivals the Stingrays at their place last weekend, Beaug’s and the boys face one of the tougher road trips in the competition as they travel to Shepparton on Saturday night.
Now, don’t get Storm Boy wrong, Shep is a lovely place but not to play basketball. The locals ‘take no prisoners’ and will make life tough for our boys.
But tough is just the way our boys like it to be. The ‘Junkyard Dog’ Jase Reardon has never backed away from a tough ask and the same for Lewie Varley and the rest of the team.
The Gators will be keen to atone for their Round 1 loss by just 4 points on the road to Camberwell and this will make for a cracking contest.
DIVISION 1 WOMEN
V Mildura, Saturday 20th March 6.00pm @ Toyota Hothouse
As if the men don’t have a big enough road trip, our Storm Ladies travel to the very corner of the State to take on Mildura to begin their 2021 Campaign.
The Heat are another very hard team to beat on their own patch and will present a significant challenge for Coach Tim Sanderson.
However, Timbo has a fairly handy squad at his disposal, led by the experienced Jess Scannell and Tiarna Rolph, along with some great up and coming talent in Jasmine Whatley and Olivia Virt.
It’s a tough wasy to strat your season, but you know what, the Storm Boy likes the cut of this team’s jib and thinks that they may very well cause a boilover at the Hothouse!
YOUTH LEAGUE 2 MEN
V Sunbury, Saturday 20th March 8.00pm @ Boardman Stadium
Unfortunately, the Storm Youth League Men fell just a little short last week in the opening round against Whittlesea, however the new, very experienced Coaching set up with Head Coach ‘Leaping’ Leigh Dawson and Assistant Coach Sam Johns have a very talented young side at their disposal.
Players such as Clancy Whelan, Tom Ness, Aiden Mackenzie and Shaun Harrington to name a few, will have learned a lot from their first game and will be great to watch develop through the course of the season.
Their opponent this week in Sunbury has been a perennial strong developer of young talent and the Jets are sure to be a tough ask in their first outing for the season.
Storm Boy is here to tell you folks…there aren’t many better feelings than knocking off Sunbury at Sunbury!
Good luck to all three sides on the weekend and lets get the clean sweep!
Storm Boy…..OUT!
