Now hiring: canteen manager

join the bpba team today!

Do you want to contribute to community sport and be a part of gameday at Storm HQ? BPBA is looking for a passionate, driven Canteen Manager to take the reins of our canteen operation and help us grow.

We’re a community-based organisation delivering both domestic competition and VJBL and BigV basketball across the Geelong/Bellarine region — and our canteen is a big part of what makes game day great. We want to take our canteen to the next level and we need someone with the ideas and drive to help us get there. If you can spot an opportunity, back yourself to make things happen, and bring energy and positivity to the workplace — we want to hear from you.

About the Role
As Canteen Manager, you’ll oversee the BPBA canteen operation across our home game schedule. You’ll lead and roster a small team of Customer Service Officers (CSOs) who cover the day-to-day canteen shifts, work a shift or two yourself each week based on your availability, and work closely with the General Manager to drive canteen performance and revenue.

This is a part-time role with hours agreed to suit the right candidate, including approximately 2–3 hours of flexible admin per week for stock ordering, supplier communication and rostering.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Overseeing canteen operations across domestic, VJBL and BigV game days
• Rostering, training and managing our CSO team to cover all canteen shifts
• Working one to two canteen shifts per week yourself based on your availability
• Identifying and acting on opportunities to grow canteen revenue
• Managing stock levels, supplier relationships and day-to-day ordering
• Maintaining food safety records and ensuring compliance with all regulations
• Keeping equipment maintained and the canteen running smoothly
• Handling fortnightly petty cash reconciliation and supplier payments

What We’re Looking For
You’ll need:
• Experience in a canteen, food service, hospitality or retail environment
• A genuine drive to grow and improve the canteen offer
• Demonstrated experience leading and managing a small team
• Strong organisational skills and reliable availability on game days
• Sound understanding of food safety and hygiene requirements
• Current Food Safety Supervisor Certificate or willingness to obtain one
• Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain one

It’d be great if you also had:
• A track record of growing revenue in a food service, canteen or retail setting
• Fresh ideas and the initiative to back them
• A connection to community sport — bonus points if you know BPBA!

What We Offer
• A part-time role with hours built around your availability
• Real autonomy to bring your ideas and make a visible impact from day one
• A supportive environment with direct access to the General Manager
• The chance to be part of a passionate basketball community on the Bellarine
• Involvement across both domestic and elite Big V competition
