BIG V WRAP 24th March 2025

YOUTH LEAGUE MEN
BELLARINE 88 d MELTON 83

After knocking on the door in round one, the Storm burst through the door in round two to record their maiden victory for the 2025 season, defeating Melton at Cobblebank Stadium by 5 points.

Kade McKenzie and Declan Coles were instrumental in stopping the scoring of Melton through the night, whilst last weeks Player of the Week in Will Smith was given a lot of attention by Melton this week. However, this allowed Levi Rickard and Ben Walters to have more room to dominate the glass and the scoreboard.

Playing a strong tempo game, the Storm were able to break the opposition run and with all our players playing their roles, it was a very even performance, both in scoring and from the bench as well.

The pleasing thing was that the side was challenged across the game, however, they held their composure to hold off their opponents , with Declan Coles hitting two clutch three pointers late in the game to push his side to the line. Zeke Rickard also showed some nice touch with his outside shooting as well.

The win will give this group a boost in confidence early in the season, that will hold them in good stead for coming games.

YOUTH LEAGUE WOMEN
BELLARINE 57 lost to SUNBURY 80
(Tahli Smith 19)

Our Youth League Women came back to Earth with a bit of a thud on Saturday night, going down to Sunbury at Sunbury by 23 points.

Things were looking ok in the first quarter, as the Storm arrived at the first great with a five point lead. However, the Second quarter turned into a non-event as the home side went into another gear, leaving Bellarine in the rear view mirror, with a 22 to 4 scoreline.

Trailing by 13 points into the second half, the Storm managed to keep pace with Sunbury in the third term to restrict any further scoreboard damage, although, we were unable to make any inroads in to the lead, as it remained at 13 points with one to play.

Again, the Jets flexed their muscle to shut the Storm out of the contest completely, with a 27 to 13 quarter, to put the Storm to the sword by 23 points at the final buzzer.

If not for the efforts of Tahli Smith with 19 points, the only Storm player in double figures, it may have been a lot worse for Bellarine than it ended up.
