BIG V WRAP 18th March 2024
We’re up and running for Big V Season 2024 as our Youth League teams kicked off their campaigns on the weekend.
YOUTH LEAGUE MEN
BELLARINE 72 lost to SURFCOAST 81
(Mitch Smith 17, Daniel Clifton 13, Bailey Goodgame 12
Going into the game minus a couple of players, it was still a very good first up showing for our Youth League Men against neighbours Surfcoast at Wired Baerr Stadium on Saturday night.
It was a very tight tussle for three of the four quarters, with only 2 points separating both sides at the main break, the home side with their noses in front.
Unfortunately, it was the third quarter that brought the Storm undone as Surfcoast extended their lead to 9 points with a quarter to play.
Into the last, the Storm worked hard to try and claw back the Chargers’ lead, however, could only push them to with in 6 points late in the game before Surfcoast managed to restore their three quarter time margin and take the win.
Mitch Smith let the scoring for the Storm with 17 for the match, whilst Daniel Clifton and Bailey Goodgame were also prominent for Bellarine.
YOUTH LEAGUE WOMEN
BELLARINE 98 def WARRANDYTE 46
(Lucy Howard 36, Karli Bruce & Alicia Field 15)
Our Youth League Women made the long trip to Warrandyte to take on the Venom in their opening match of their season and the game was well and truly over by half time as the Storm had gone about taking a 30 point lead into the half time break.
It was ‘Lucy Howard Day’ at Warrandyte as she proved too much for the Venom, coming away from the game with 36 points and in the process, broke the Storm record for the highest individual score for our Youth League and then added a Club record 16 of 20 shooting from the field to pretty much put the game beyond doubt.
Karli Bruce also relished her time on court, finishing with 15 points and 9 boards for the game, whilst Alicia Field also dropped 15 for the afternoon.
Sienna Quinlan was also very handy with 11 points and 9 rebounds for the Storm.
