The Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association Board has appointed Nick Stamatopoulos as Head Coach of the Championship Men’s team for the 2026 Big V season.
Following an extensive recruitment process overseen by the club’s leadership group and endorsed by the Board, the decision was made to appoint Stamatopoulos to lead the next phase of the men’s program.
Stamatopoulos brings a wealth of experience as both a player and coach, having competed overseas and at State Championship level, where he also began his coaching career working with junior athletes. He has been part of the Bellarine Storm program since 2019, transitioning from player to coach and dedicating himself to developing athletes and building culture. Over the past three seasons, he has coached at Big V level, including as Head Coach of the Youth League Men’s team and Assistant Coach with the Championship Women’s program.
His appointment ensures alignment, stability, and accountability across all levels of the club as the men’s program continues to rebuild its identity and performance standards.
Bellarine Peninsula Basketball Association President Gary Thompson said the appointment reflects full Board support and confidence in Stamatopoulos’s leadership.
“The Board has complete confidence in Nick’s ability to lead the program. His understanding of the club’s direction, his commitment to our values, and his leadership experience make him the ideal person to continue building the men’s program.”
Stamatopoulos said he is eager to build on the foundation laid last season and establish a culture the whole club can be proud of.
“We hit the reset button last season and now we have an opportunity to redefine who we are as a men’s program. I’m excited to lead that next phase, surround the team with the right people, and build a culture that our whole club and community can be proud of. We want players who want to grow, compete, and represent something bigger than themselves — that’s the kind of environment we’re creating.”
The Bellarine Storm looks forward to the next chapter for its men’s program under Stamatopoulos’ leadership as planning and recruitment commence for the 2026 Big V season
