Yabba Dabba Dooooo! Here we go again folks. Big V 2022 is with us and yes, Stormy’s back. Thank you for all the letters, however, I am back again!
Let’s kick things off, by giving a huge welcome to our ‘new kids on the block’, our Youth League Women, who complete the Bellarine Storm Senior Program family.
The ladies are being led by Coach David Smith and have recruited nicely, to ensure they’ll be in the mix in their first season.
Now, let’s look at the games coming up this weekend in the opening round of Big V 2022 and aren’t there some crackers!
Division 1 Men
Saturday 19th March v Keysborough 8pm @ Rowville Secondary CollegeSunday 20th March v RMIT Redbacks 2pm @ Bellarine Secondary College
Stormy is gonna go the slog first up this season and say, he’s feeling it for our Division 1 men this season. Welcome to a couple of stars from across town in Maxy Kos and Marko Vekic, who will add heaps to an already strong line up, as will Leigh Saffin, who joins us from Warrnambool and brings some exciting options for Coach Beugs to play with in 2022. The great news is that the evergreen Jason Reardon has been back to the fountain of youth over the off season and is back again this season! Two tough games to open the season, including against last season’s benchmark in Keysborough before backing up at our place the following day to host RMIT.A split weekend would be ok, however, a double win weekend would be just what the Doctor ordered to get the season off to a flier.
Division 1 Women
Saturday 19th March v Mildura 7pm @ Bellarine Secondary College
Once again, Tim Sanderson is at the helm of our D1 Women and over the off season, the team has been up on the hoist and had a bit of an overhaul. This years team looks full of promise, with some nice additions, including Charlotte Armstrong who will provide plenty of options to this team. A dangerous shooter and strong rebounder, Charlotte will be an important cog in this years team. Stormy also suggests keeping an eye out for Lucy Howard, who has stepped up from our junior program this season and has shown lots of upside in the pre-season!
Youth League Men
Sunday 20th March v Sunbury 12 noon @ Boardman Stadium
After a strong showing in 2021, our Youth League Men are in a good spot going into this season. Retaining the majority of their list from last year, they will be looking to make finals their goal this season. Sunbury is always a tough opponent on their own patch, however, Stormy feels that we might just come away with the choccies in this one.
Youth League Women
Saturday 19th March v Southern Peninsula 5pm @ Hillview Stadium
It will be really exciting to see our Youth League Women run out for the very first time on Saturday night. Puts a lump in old Stormy’s throat. The whole Club will be behind you and we can’t wait to see you in action.Best of luck to Dave and the ladies and here’s hoping for 1 game, one win!
Well, that’s it for me this week. Don’t forget the home games this week, will be awesome to see all your happy, smiling faces back at a game of basketball again.
